Kuthampully in Thrissur district is Kerala’s largest handloom cluster, known for its distinctly heavier cotton-silk weave and elaborate temple border designs. The temple border — featuring shrine gopurams, elephants, and lotuses — is woven in pure gold zari, and each saree takes 2–3 days on a Jacquard loom to complete.
The cotton-silk blend gives the fabric a beautiful drape and a subtle sheen, making it ideal for formal occasions and cultural programmes.
